New Delhi, August 28
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sent a show-cause notice to the state BJP president in Haryana for violating its guidelines on prohibiting the use of children in election-related activities and campaigning.
The poll body has sought a response from the Haryana BJP chief to the notice by August 29. The ECI has tagged a tweet dated August 27 from Haryana BJP’s X handle, showing video clips of state
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini posing with children while campaigning for the Assembly elections. He is shown taking selfies with children and even engaging with them during campaign.
“The ECI takes serious view of a post on X by the BJP Haryana handle using a child in the campaign video, which is violative of the ECI guidelines prohibiting the use of children in election-related activities and campaigning,” the notice said. It added the CEO, Haryana, had issued the notice for immediate corrective action.
