Shimla, August 28
In order to provide employment to economically weak and needy persons in the town, the Shimla Municipal Corporation has decided to provide a guaranteed employment in MGNREGA type works to such persons for a period of 120 days.
Under this scheme, labour work at construction sites, maintaining cleanliness in the towns as well as forest areas, cutting of bushes and other such works will be provided to the needy people. The Municipal Corporation will also issue Rozgar cards to such persons. However, the total number of workers as well as the amount of wages paid is to be decided by the Corporation. Recently, the civic body had prepared a proposal regarding this scheme that was sent to the state government for approval. The Corporation had sought a budget of Rs 3 crore for the implementation of this scheme in the town.
Shimla Municipal Commissioner Bhupinder Attri said that a portal had been created for their registration. Attri said that that there were many needy people with a poor background who are in dire need of work. “Such people will be provided with employment opportunities under which they will be recruited for various labour works so that they could earn their livelihood,” he said.
