Campus notes: Ved Prachar week celebrated

Jalandhar: Ved Prachar week was celebrated at Police DAV Public School. Suryakant of Class VII spoke on the importance of Vedas in the assembly. A havan yajna was organised at the school and 51 'kunds' were used. Principal Rashmi Vij, who was the 'yajman' along with teachers and students, offered oblations into the fire. Vedic mantras were chanted by the students of Classes VII to IX.

Maths symposium at DAV College

Jalandhar: The PG department of mathematics and research and development cell at DAV College jointly organised a DBT-sponsored symposium 'EngageXperience@IKS'. The event, centred on the theme of Indian mathematics and 'Viksit Bharat@2047', was a vibrant and insightful event. Following the opening, a floral welcome was extended to the resource person, Arun Kumar Garg, by the organising committee. SK Tuli, vice-principal and head of the mathematics department, gave a warm introduction to Garg, highlighting his contributions to the field. Tuli also highlighted the contributions of ancient Indian mathematicians to various branches of mathematics and also discussed the origin of Vedic mathematics. Principal Rajesh Kumar delivered an address, encouraging students to actively participate in building a 'Viksit Bharat' and emphasising the role of young minds in shaping the future of the nation.

Personal grooming workshop

Jalandhar: The department of management and applied sciences at Lyallpur Khalsa College, in association with Procter & Gamble, organised a one-day personal effectiveness and grooming workshop on 'Be your own boss' for the girls students of the first semester. The objective of this workshop was to empower girls by enhancing their grooming habits personal effectiveness skill, ultimately boosting their confidence and preparing them for success in both in personal and professional spheres. This workshop was conducted by Shruti Arora. This workshop highlighted the importance of holistic health and wellness, advocating for a balanced approach to physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of girls and women. Inderpal Singh, Dean, Research & Examination, congratulated the coordinators and students.

World Photography Day celebrated

Jalandhar: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University organised a guest lecture in observance of World Photography Day. A professional from the firm 'Third I picture' and filmmaker-cum-cinematographer, Sukhmanjot Singh, was the resource person on the occasion. The event was mentored by Vice-Chancellor Prof Susheel Mittal and Registrar SK Misra. Department of Journalism Head Prof Ranbir Singh and Assistant Professor Ekta Mahajan welcomed the resource person. Sukhmanjot explained the concept of lighting and importance of framing in photography. A follow-up group activity was also performed with the students to deepen their understanding of photography concepts and camera handling techniques. A photography competition was also adjudged by him on the theme 'Nature and architecture'. Anushka, a student of BA-JMC (fifth semester) bagged the first prize, followed by Loveveer Kaur of BA-JMC (first semester), who stood second and Rahul of BA-JMC (third semester), won the third prize.

Apeejay student tops varsity exams

Jalandhar: Aggrima Jain, a student of the B.Design in Multimedia (sixth semester), of Apeejay College of Fine Arts has secured the first position in the final exams conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, with an outstanding score of 574 out of 600. Simrat Pal Kaur achieved the seventh position with 560 marks while Sanchay Gupta secured the tenth position with 553 marks, further adding to the college's glory.

Seth Hukam wins badminton event

Jalandhar: Students of Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School participated in 68th Punjab State Zonal-Level Tournament 2024-2025 held at MGN Public School, Adarsh Nagar. The U-19 girls' team got the first position in badminton event. They also qualified for the district-level tournament.
