Chandigarh: The UT police have booked an immigration consultant for duping several people on the pretext of sending them abroad. Pankaj Kumar of Kurukshetra had reported that Kulbir Singh, who runs an office in Sector 17, allegedly duped him and others of Rs 69 lakh. A case has been registered at the Sector 17 police station and an investigation started.
Two arrested with 10 kg opium
Lalru: The police have arrested two persons and recovered 10 kg of opium from them near the Dappar barrier here on Monday. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects, identified as Tarn Taran residents Inderjeet Singh and Navpreet Singh, at the Lalru police station. The police said the suspects procured the contraband from Jharkhand and sold it to customers in the tricity.
Orientation programme
Mohali: Amity University held its orientation programme on Wednesday. The event was attended by over 2,000 students and parents, marking the beginning of a new journey for the incoming batch. Seminar for women workers
Mohali: Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, organised a seminar on ‘The Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ to discuss the problems faced by women workers. Surabhi Prashar, CJM-cum-District Legal Services Authority secretary apprised the faculty members about the provisions of the law on prevention of sexual harassment and discussed about the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in the case of Vishakha and others vs State of Rajasthan.
